Students may also walk with staff to meet parents at the Elk’s Park softball field lot after school. 🚌 Families wanting bus transportation must fill out a transportation request. What an incredible evening at the Parkview Playground Grand Opening! 🛝 It was pure joy to watch our new playground come alive with the laughter, smiles, and energy of our students and families. A heartfelt thank you to the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting the ribbon cutting, and an even bigger thank you to our amazing community. Your support made these playgrounds possible, and we are so grateful. We’re counting down the days until school starts next week, when every student will get to explore, play, and make new memories on these beautiful playgrounds. We’re excited to introduce Bella Barker as our new Junior/Senior High School Special Education Teacher! Bella joined the Rangely community a little over a year ago after moving from Grand Junction, CO, after meeting her fiancé. She is a proud graduate of Colorado Mesa University with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. Before joining our district, Bella worked in an all-access outdoor education program for 6th-grade students in Mesa County, teaching everything from creek biology and survival skills to archery, plant identification, camping, low ropes courses, and social-emotional skills—while living in a cabin tent at the school for a year! When she’s not in the classroom, Bella can be found outdoors with her fiancé and their two dogs—hiking, camping, rafting, dirt biking, or practicing traditional archery. What she’s most excited about in Rangely? The small-town, close-knit community and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with students during their six years at RJSHS. We’re excited to welcome Justin Cornell to Rangely Junior/Senior High School! This year, Mr. Cornell will be teaching World History with 10th grade, Human Geography with 9th grade, and Social Studies with 7th grade. A Colorado native (with the exception of three unforgettable months in Arizona 😅), Justin grew up in Aurora/Denver and has also lived in Colorado Springs and Durango—his favorite spot in the state! This will be his first year teaching Social Studies, but he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the subject. He earned two BAs in History & Political Science from Fort Lewis College in 2012 and a Master’s in Global Community Engagement from the University of Denver in 2019. Before teaching, he spent years in customer service (an experience he doesn’t recommend!), but his heart has always been in history and education. Outside the classroom, Justin enjoys history and non-fiction reading, following current events, video games, building computers, and a little bit of competitive gaming—he’s played World of Warcraft for 20 years and logged over 2,000 hours in Fallout 4! Justin is looking forward to joining our close-knit community, enjoying a slower pace of life, and sharing his love for history with our students. We’re excited to announce Carrie Burnett as the new head coach for Rangely’s Seventh Grade Volleyball Team! Carrie knows the sport well—she played volleyball for seven years, including four years on varsity at Rangely High School. A proud Rangely native, she’s spent most of her life here, recently moving back after four years away following nursing school. When she’s not coaching, Carrie enjoys spending time with her family, going on walks with her son and two golden retrievers, and relaxing with a good book. She’s passionate about volleyball and looks forward to inspiring the next generation to love the game as much as she does. We’re excited to introduce Grady Nielsen as the new Assistant Coach for the Rangely Junior High football team! Grady is no stranger to Panther football—he played for seven years through middle and high school, earning All-Conference and All-State honors. Born and raised in Rangely (minus his time at CMU in Grand Junction), he’s been part of our community for 22 years. When he’s not on the field, you can find him mountain biking, fishing, hiking, golfing, or out riding his side-by-side. Professionally, Grady works full-time as a pumper with Scout Energy Management. He’s most excited to connect with our youth and help build a winning attitude and culture they can carry with them through life. We’re excited to welcome Laura Coombs as our new 5th-grade teacher at Parkview Elementary! Laura joins us from Pueblo, CO, and brings with her a passion for teaching and a love for the 5th-grade classroom—something she’s taught for the past three years. She graduated from Colorado State University Pueblo in 2021 and went on to earn her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in 2024. Outside of the classroom, Laura enjoys evening walks, playing board games, baking, visiting local coffee shops, spending time with family, and watching Gilmore Girls. She’s most looking forward to the slower pace and the warm, small-town hospitality that Rangely has to offer. We’re excited to welcome Patrick Scoggins to the Parkview Elementary team! This year, Patrick will be teaching 4th grade and bringing his passion for education, athletics, and community to our students. Patrick is no stranger to Rangely—he’s a proud Rangely native and 2018 RHS graduate! After high school, he attended Colorado State University Pueblo, where he earned degrees in Exercise Science and Health Science while competing in cross country and track. After college, Patrick moved to Kansas City, MO, where he worked as a personal trainer and later as a Youth Development Leader at the YMCA. Now, he’s returned home to the “greatest town in America” to give back to the community that shaped him. When he’s not in the classroom, Patrick loves the outdoors—running, biking, swimming, hiking, and camping—and spending time with his goldendoodle, whether on walks, outdoor adventures, or snuggled up for movie nights. Patrick says he’s most looking forward to encouraging and supporting the youth of Rangely and helping them grow both in and out of the classroom. He studied Mathematics and Elementary Education, ultimately earning his degree in General Studies. For the past few years, he’s been sharing his love for numbers while teaching math at Job Corps. From all of us at Rangely School District, our hearts are with our neighbors in Meeker during this difficult time. The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce is actively partnering with Rio Blanco County to coordinate support for those affected by the Lee and Elk Fires. To help streamline this effort, the Chamber is compiling a master list of available emergency and human resources from the Rangely and Dinosaur areas. This list will be shared with Meeker’s emergency response teams to help distribute aid where it’s needed most.
