This week’s Staff Spotlight is Kris Denny Administrative Assistant for Rio Blanco BOCES. Kris has been with BOCES since 2011 and works in our building every day, quietly doing a lot of the work that keeps things running smoothly for students and staff.
As part of her responsibilities Kris serves as the Medicaid Coordinator for Rangely and Meeker helps manage IEP records, compliance timelines, and documentation. It’s detailed, behind-the-scenes work that most people never see, but it’s critical to making sure we stay in compliance and that students receive the services they need. She is also heavily involved in Child Find and helps make sure those screenings and early supports happen as smoothly as possible.
One thing I really appreciate about Kris is that she never sees herself as “separate” from the district. Even though she works for BOCES, she sees herself as part of this building and part of this team. She is always willing to help, answer questions, track something down, or jump in wherever she is needed. If you’ve ever needed information quickly or wondered how something was done in the past, there’s a good chance Kris helped make that happen.
Kris is incredibly organized and takes pride in making sure nothing slips through the cracks. That attention to detail makes a big difference for our staff and, ultimately, for our students.
Family is a big part of Kris’s life. She and her husband, Gary, will celebrate 34 years of marriage this March. All three of their children went through our schools, and now she enjoys seeing former classmates of her children teaching her grandchildren. Those full-circle moments are a great reminder of how connected our school community really is.
Outside of work, Kris enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, traveling with her sisters, and she is planning to take up golf this year.
Kris’s work may not always be visible, but it matters every single day. We are fortunate to have her as part of our extended team, and I appreciate everything she does to support our students and staff.
