Gretchen Connor has dedicated her entire teaching career to Rangely School District RE-4, joining the district in 2005 and spending more than 20 years serving students across a wide range of grade levels and subject areas. Over the years, she has built a reputation as a caring, consistent, and deeply committed educator who believes strongly in the potential of every student.
Gretchen began her career teaching in elementary classrooms before continuing her education and earning a master’s degree in special education. Her professional journey has included teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as working closely with students who require additional support. Today, she teaches English at the middle and high school levels, bringing a broad skill set and a strong understanding of student needs into her classroom each day.
At the core of Gretchen’s teaching philosophy is the belief that strong relationships are essential to student success. She takes the time to truly know her students, understanding where they are coming from and what they may be experiencing both inside and outside the classroom. Gretchen is especially passionate about helping students see opportunities they may not have previously considered, and she values the moments when students begin to realize what is possible for their future. Former students returning to share their success stories remain some of the most meaningful highlights of her career.
Gretchen’s experience as a parent has also influenced the way she works with students and families. She approaches communication with empathy and perspective, recognizing that families want their children to be successful and often need support navigating challenges along the way. She is proud of her two children, Sarah and Daniel. Sarah works as a counselor supporting individuals with disabilities, and Daniel serves as a sergeant in the National Guard while also working in the utility field. Gretchen is also looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild this spring.
Outside of school, Gretchen enjoys reading, gardening, spending time outdoors, and gathering with family and friends. Her dedication to students, commitment to relationships, and steady presence have made a lasting impact on the Rangely School District community.
