Rangely, CO – On Tuesday, September 3, the Rangely School District Board of Education unanimously approved a bond request to be placed on the November 5, 2024 general election ballot. This bond request, if approved by voters, will secure $27.95 million to fund critical improvements to the district’s facilities, focusing on enhancing safety, upgrading infrastructure, and projects that will assist in extending the life of aging school buildings.
Supporting Rangely Students
If approved, the bond will address urgent needs across the district, including:
Safety and Security Enhancements: Projects include securing entrances, improving access control systems, enhancing window protections, and modernizing fire control and burglar alarm systems. These upgrades are essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of Rangely students and staff.
Health and Well-being Improvements: A significant portion of the bond will be allocated to upgrading outdated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Improved indoor air quality and better ventilation will create a healthier environment conducive to learning.
Infrastructure Repairs: The bond would also fund necessary repairs and updates to roofing, plumbing, and electrical systems across the district. These improvements will not only extend the life of our buildings but also make them more efficient and cost-effective in the long run.
Financial Transparency & Accountability
While passage of the bond won't guarantee receipt of a BEST grant, it will ensure we have the matching funds required if we do receive it. We plan to apply for the BEST grant in spring 2025. This grant would allow us to reduce some of our projected project costs and pursue additional valued projects, with the state covering up to 42% of the expenses. The grant will support projects that keep our students and staff warm, safe, and dry, addressing critical needs in our schools. If the bond is approved by the community, the projected increase to the school tax mill rate is projected at $0.03 per $1,000 of equalized property value
