Recommendations
Implementation of RTI, to monitor progress, get staff training and frequent reporting to PAC,.

In the PAC goals are the programs that the Middle School has implemented to meet the recommendations for the RTI model.

            1. ZAP program.  Zeroes Aren’t Permitted, at lunch.
The committee agreed that the ZAP program was positive.
2. Math series – Mr. Dillon finds the math program working well. The program
builds on the prior books so there are many students who have holes in their knowledge. But as the classes work through the sequential program the students will get better.
            3. Corrective Reading – This program is for students who are reading 3rd and 4th
grade level. This program is a scripted program and we have had great success with most of the students. This is a very specific scientifically based program.
            4. Step Class – This is a tier two intervention, meaning that this affects all
students. Success Through Extended Practice. For example in Mathematics one group was working on fluency.
Parents had not heard any complaints from their children.
5. Boost – Small group for students who were not proficient were taken out of a
9 week exploratory. This morphed into a pull out for re-teaching. Mr. Dillon feels that it works well there is much less resentment.
            6. Frequent progress monitoring.
                        A. Aims Webs – These are very quick one-four minute assessments.
B. MAP testing – There has only been given once. The information from
the MAP test is immediate.  The MAPS test is more comprehensive and will break out the information in relation to the Colorado State Standards.
            7. More common planning time with the 3 more in-service days a year.

Mr. Day asked the committee if there were things that should be added or taken out of the program.  Mrs. Parsons said that if you can make a difference for one child you are making a difference.

One more intervention for next year.  The sixth grade students will get one exploratory and will have to take a semester of direct instruction reading.

April meeting on Monday 23rd.
