Parent Advisory Committee - January 15, 2007
Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Parsons, Mr. Robertson, Mrs. Carlson, Mrs. Horntvedt, Mr. Dillon, Mrs. Staley.
1, School Goals for 2006-07
Committee received a copy of the school goals to read over. Mrs. Parsons asked if we could change the wordage to read – Based on the weighted index scores of the standardized tests administered in the spring and the Peram……. The change would be for clarity only. Mrs. Horntvedt moves that the Goals look good. Mrs. Parson seconds.
Committee is unanimous in accepting the goals.
2. Attendance Review -
Mrs. Parsons asked if the numbers are for the whole year or for the month.
6th grade is 95.1%, 7th grade – 94%, 8th grade – 93.7% Overall is 94.5%
Mr. Robertson asked if the Middle School had an attendance policy for days missed.
3. Handbook Change Recommendations
Policies to be added
Bullying – is a policy but the administration would like to add it to the student policy. Mrs. Staley likes the idea of adding the Bullying paragraph to the handbook.
Weapons in school – The committee discussed the difference in the pocketknife policy in the weapons and the school’s pocketknife policy.
Other Items – the pocketknife and the cell phone policy are agreed to be good ideas.
4. Review Assessment Results
AIMS – Web – Strategic Monitoring and MAP Monitoring.
MAPs gives an immediate result that the school can respond to. AIMS is good at highlighting the students who are the most at need. AIMS is tested once a month, but the tests are quick.
MAPS scores have not been sent to the parents until the spring test has been taken so that there is a comparison of score.
Because of the adaptive nature of the MAPS test is not so discouraging for the students because at all level the student will know a certain percentage of questions.
5. Interventions Place
a. ZAP – Zero’s aren’t permitted. Has made a difference in completion of homework. Student’s will even volunteer to go to ZAP to get work done.
b. STEP – A class for interventions. The students showed improvement.
c. Boost – Re-teaching – Students are pulled as needed rather than students have the class for a quarter. It is also timelier. Mr. Dillon also will pull students out to work ahead on Fridays.
D Corrective Reading – This is a scripted program. This is intense direct instruction in a small group.
6. Other-
Mr. Robertson asked for copy of the handbook to be given to pack members.
Mrs. Staley asked what has happened with the cameras in the school.
