PAC Meeting 2/16/05Mrs.
Cowell , Ms. Davis, Mrs. Barlow, Mr. Mecham, Mrs. Cushman, Mrs. Dillon,
Mrs. Denny.
Handouts for possible building closure.
Mr. Day - Presented information that was given to Board. Board has
not decided that a building that a building would be closed and even
if that will happen the Board has no decision for what building will
be closed.
Mr. Day explained the building closure sheets.
Mrs. Cushman brought up the fact that busing the students for swimming,
would still add cost of busing. Did not agree with the amount of saving
for busing by closing EEC?
Most of committee members felt that the closing of the EEC made the
most sense. All parents did not want ANY younger students in the High
School.
Committee members not enthusiastic about Middle School closure or
losing Middle School Sports. Mr. Mecham said that he would move if
there was no Middle School Sports. Committee members did not feel
that there would any poor feeling about still paying for mill levy
despite building closure. The members also felt that there is use
for EEC by the police, dispatch or city offices then the Credit Union
could stay where it is.
Mrs. Dillon - Could we do a better job coordinating transportation?
Knowledge Bowl and Girls Basket Ball were all at the Steamboat High
School yet took two busses. Do we need to give students money for
overnight trips?
Mrs. Cowell - What should not be touched as far as areas for saving.
Mrs. Cushman - Do not touch teacher compensation.
The committee members want to be able to attract teachers who would
be committed to students and community. Committee members felt that
married teachers were more committed to community, and usually brought
students.
Mrs. Cowell also brought a suggestion made by Mrs. Ward suggested
a four day work week.
Committee members thought that estimates of moving classrooms, cost
of moving the kitchen, and putting up fencing is under estimated.
